Soustons
Nestled in the south of the Landes region, just 30 minutes from the EUROSOL campsite ****, Soustons is a little corner of wild, unspoilt paradise that’s a must-see. Here, swimming, water sports, fishing, tree-climbing and cycling are all part and parcel of a Landes vacation.
Soustons beach
Situated between the Port d’Albret marine lake and the Pinsolles pond, the ocean beach at Soustons stretches for almost six kilometers along a long ribbon of fine sand and rolling dunes.
Going against the grain of the major beaches in the Landes region, Soustons beach has chosen to “disconnect” completely during the vacations. Soustons becomes a beach without wifi, cut off from the world, from Facebook, instagram or twitter. Just you, the sea and nature! Perfect for a digital detox, swapping your smartphone for a surfboard, a paddle or a good novel to devour on the beach!
Lake Albret
Created in 1970 on the former bed of the Adour between Soustons and Vieux-Boucau, on the edge of the Atlantic coastline, the Port marine lake is a unique place in the Landes to relax away from the rollers of the waves. Thanks to a dam towards the ocean, the lake is kept level during low tides.
The day’s program includes supervised swimming on the Sauvagine beach, light sailing, windsurfing, pedal-boating, sailing aboard a miniature electric replica of a real boat or a bike ride around the lake. During the summer vacations, Fun Park Plage takes up residence on the shores of the marine lake, with inflatable games of all kinds and themed evening shows. The kids are having the time of their lives!
Lake Soustons
Straddling the communes of Soustons and Azur, in a wild and preserved setting classified Natura 2000, this 380-hectare marine lake is entirely devoted to pleasure boating. Several sporting regattas are organized each year.
The lake is off-limits to swimming, but it is possible to go tree-climbing at the water’s edge. The Centre sportif et nautique de l’Isle Verte offers 5 forest courses of different levels, accessible from age 3.
Hardy Pond and Blanc Pond
L’étang d’Hardy offers a 42-hectare haven of nature, surrounded by forests. Biodiversity thrives here and the waters are rich in fish, which has attracted many anglers. A small canal links Hardy pond to its larger neighbor, Blanc pond (183 ha). Fishing is also very popular, as are boat trips in the company of wild ducks in a peaceful setting.
Shopping in Soustons
Every Monday morning, from 8am to 1pm, a large market is held on the Place des Arènes in Soustons. An opportunity to stock up on local Landes specialities, crafts, manufactured goods, decoration, clothing, accessories, etc. during the vacations.
During the summer, another market takes over the Place Robert Lassalle, every Thursday morning. On Sundays, head to the Place du Lac Marin in Soustons-Plage to stroll between the stalls of a small, friendly organic and craft market.
Night market lovers? Soustons offers two lively night markets in July and August: in the town center every Friday evening, and in the Place du Lac Marin on Thursday evenings (7-10pm).
Soustons festivals
During the summer, there’s plenty to do in Soustons. The resort offers a wide range of events for young and old, including music, traditional dance, live shows, traditional festivals and Landes cheerfulness. Highlights in the Landes village include the Soustons festivals (August). The opportunity to attend the famous Landes races, novilladas and other Portuguese bullfights that have kept Gascon culture alive for generations.
