Camping vacations on the beach
Messanges is famous for its five-kilometer-long beach and its wide range of water sports. People come here for sailing, surfing, windsurfing, kitesurfing and Hawaiian pirogues. Young and old, sporty or just a little lazy, can enjoy an invigorating and relaxing vacation.
Walks and bike rides
Messanges’s footpaths and cycle paths take you along the beaches, through the forest and around the Moïsan and Prade ponds. An opportunity to get out the rod and reel in some fine pike, perch and pike-perch. Hiking enthusiasts can follow the GR8, the coastal path that runs alongside the Pilgrim’s Way to Santiago de Compostela.
The festive atmosphere of Landes festivals and events
In summer, Messanges offers a wide range of activities to make your vacation a fun one. These include the traditional Messanges sardinades, a country-style meal open to all with disco music, and the Toro Piscine, a comedy-taurine show featuring the Intervilles cows around a giant swimming pool. To each his own!
The Messanges market, a summer classic
Looking for a taste of the Landes region? In summer, the village of Messanges hosts a lovely market under the covered market hall, every Wednesday and Saturday morning. Enough to stock up for the week!
A little history
The detour of the Adour river in 1578 precipitated the mass exodus of Messanges’ population, estimated at 3,000 to 4,000 in the 14th and 15th centuries. Abbé Légé’s writings indicate that the port’s main movement was in the Moïsan pond. The origin of the name Messanges comes from “Messanges”, in the arrondissement of Dijon, where Burgundy grape varieties with a bouquet similar to that of vin de sable (produced in the Landes region since the 13th century) are said to have been transplanted.
